Historic Old Town, Beaches, Redwoods & More!

There is more to California than LA and San Francisco. The state is extremely large and home to some of the most interesting little towns and natural scenery in the United States. Nestled in the Redwood forests not far from the Oregon border, you will find Eureka. It is a quaint little town that brings in a large number of visitors every year.

Eureka is a port city in Northern California. Its Historic Old Town district features elaborate Victorian houses such as the nearby Carson Mansion. Sequoia Park Zoo is home to pandas and primates, and features a walk-through aviary. Next to the zoo, Sequoia Park is home to massive old-growth redwood trees. Guided boat cruises aboard the early-1900s Madaket ferry take in the sights, seals and birdlife of Humboldt Bay.

Explore the Redwoods: They are all around Eureka!
The Redwood forests of Northern California are some of the most unique woods in the United States. The forest is comprised of Coastal Redwood trees, ancient arbor giants that stand at almost 300 feet tall in some cases. Many of these trees are centuries old and live over 2000 years in many cases. Being in the presence of these giant trees is a awe-inspiring experience that reminds you just how small you really are. Besides the Redwoods National Park, there are about a dozen state parks that feature these giants, and provide great aceess and trails. All are an easy drive from Eureka.

On the Beaches and Waterfront
The beauty of Eureka doesn’t just lie in the forests. The city is also located on the coast of California, meaning you can experience coastal beauty and forests in one day. In 1996, the city built a great network of walking trails along the beaches and coastline that make up the coast of Eureka. It’s a quiet area that more tourists are starting to learn about and take advantage of. Some trails are still under construction.

Historic Old Town & Victorian Architecture
Listed on the United States National Register of Historic Places, Historic Old Town Eureka is home to more than 100 Victorian buildings. Old Town is one of the most meticulously preserved and restored commercial districts in the West. The most notable building in the city is the Carson Mansion which, like many Eureka sights, are easy walking distance from the Town House Motel. The mansion, built in 1885, stands at the top of a hill where it can be seen from just about anywhere in the city on a clear day. It’s the most photographed building in Eureka. Old Town Eureka is packed with things to see and do, from art galleries and antique stores to museums, restaurants, coffee shops, and cafés, as well as unique boutiques, bookstores, and one-of-a-kind shops.

Beautiful Hotel!

“I stayed here on a coastal trip and really loved it. The room looked like they have been recently renovated, although some things still needed attention. It didn’t bother us though. Staff was great, breakfast was excellent and we loved being able to take a walk on the beach in the morning. We will defintiely stay here again.” – FLORIDA Keys TRIPADVISOR GUEST
